Thursday Things I Hoped I'd Never Hear...

Published on 9.30.2010 in ,

I was putting Mini #1 in the car to go to the sitter's and he had his leg sticking out of his car seat so I couldn't shut the door without squashing his leg.

"Move your foot please."

(Snicker snicker...foot doesn't move)

"Move your foot...now."

(Snicker snicker...foot doesn't move)

First, middle, and last name are all used..."Move your foot.  We're going to be late."

(begrudgingly) "OK."

"You need to stop antagonizing your mother.  Do you know what antagonizing means?"

"Yep.  I'm driving you nuts.....
...that's funny."

Oh hell.  He really is a miniature of his father.

Friday's Favorites...GLEE

Published on 9.24.2010 in ,

I'm a total GLEEK.

Yep, that's right.  I'm a nerd about that show everyone's talking about...

Glee

Season premiere was Tuesday night.  If you missed it, check it out on the fox.com website.

Seriously...awesome.

Even Engineering Man likes it.  And that's saying a lot.

Remember people...he watches "Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman."

Three years ago today...

Published on 9.23.2010 in

...my family lost someone that was very close to everyone.

I was very fortunate growing up that I never dealt with death...at least not the death of someone young.

But this time it was different...he was a year younger than me.

I don't think I've ever really "dealt" with my cousin's passing. I'm not sure if I ever will.  But one thing I do know is that I will always miss him.
My aunt put the following memorial on his grave, and as close as my family is, it's the perfect description.

We did not know that morning, that God would call your name.
In life we loved you dearly, and in death it is still the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone;
for part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
You left us full of memories, and thoughts of you are still our guide;
although we can no longer see you, you are always at our side.
Even though our chain is broken, and nothing seems the same;
someday God will call on us, and the chain will link again.

My aunt wants everyone to think of one happy memory of Brandon today. So...Donnie...for you:

Brandon and his brother stole my camcorder at their sister's wedding; only I didn't know it.  The next week I was getting a tape ready for her, and started through the footage of the reception.  I couldn't help laughing at the random interviews Brandon conducted with our family members; including I believe someone signing.

Awesome. Still makes me smile.

Anyone else want to share a memory?

Thursday Things I Never Thought I'd Hear...

Published on in , ,

Saturday night Mini #1 and I were getting ready to go to bed.

Engineering Man was at drill.

I asked Mini #1 if he wanted to call EM before we went to sleep.

"Oh yea."

As the phone was ringing, Mini #1 got a mischievous grin on his face...

"Hello."

"Hey hon.  We're heading to bed. Mini #1 wanted to say goodnight."

"Hey buddy.  What's up?"

"Chicken butt."

30 before 30...#2

Published on 9.22.2010 in ,

678 pictures later and multiple hours spent getting paper cuts I have now crossed off...

...#2: Actually print pictures of the boys and make a photo album of them.

...from my 30 before 30 list.

I  spent many hours going through each of my photo albums and selecting pictures of the boys.

I uploaded them to Shutterfly, and using a couple of discounts, actually received all the pictures for $56.  For almost 700 pictures, I didn't think that was too bad.

The other day I received 8 bright orange packages in the mail...

...sorted each of the boys pictures according to date...

(yes, I'm OCD, why do you ask?)

...and then put them into albums.

Favorite part of it all?  Comparing how mini #1 and mini #2 look so much alike in each of their pictures.

DIY of the week..."patio" edging

Published on 9.21.2010 in ,

Engineering Man's been bitching about weed eating around the DIY patio I set up in the backyard.

So, Friday afternoon we ran to Home Depot to pick up some edgers.

$15 later, we were back home with a DIY project.

Engineering Man started by placing the edgers around the area to get an idea of where he wanted each of them placed.

Then, using a shovel, he cut into the sod on the outside of the edger to get his edge.

Finally, he  cut out the sod around the edge of the wood chips...

He made the cut out about the size of the stone edgers...

He then tamped down each of the edgers into the cut out area around the chips...

Finally, he used the sod he had cut out to make the edgers look like they'd been there for more than 5 minutes.

Unfortunately, I didn't take an after picture...

But trust me.  It looks awesome.
