Friday's Favorites...thrifty chick...

Published on 7.09.2010 in , ,

Over the 4th, we went to visit Engineering Man's grandma.

In her town, there's a thrift shop called Et Cetra.

Adorable place with great prices.

EM's mom and I took off when we got there to go shopping for shorts for her.

Needless to say, I spent my own money on...

A shirt for Engineering Man...

A shirt for me...

Another shirt for me...

...(price tags still attached)...

A pair of shorts for me...

A jacket for me...

And an Erin London jacket for me...

(Looked it up...retail it's $52.)

So...what did I pay for all these great finds?

For a grand total of....$20.50.

Except well...the thrift store was running a sale that day. In honor of the holiday everything was half price.

My total...including tax for all 6 items was $10.52.

SCORE!

Thursday Things I Never Thought I'd Learn...

Published on 7.08.2010 in ,

According to Mini #1, only boys, not girls, can do the following...

1) Say "wooga booga"
2) Play in the sandbox
3) Get the mail
4) Drive

Awesome. Guess you're driving your brother to 'Nita's for daycare.

Rock City review

Published on 7.07.2010 in , , , ,

This past weekend Engineering Man and I took the boys to Rock City outside of Minneapolis, Kansas.

As we rounded the corner...we noticed huge...well, rocks...sticking out of the landscape.

Nearly 200 of them dotted the local area...

...and ranged up to 27 feet in diameter...

It has been designated as a National Natural Landmark.

From the pamphlet we picked up, Engineering Man figured out these are "concretions".

Basically, the sandstone was cemented together into the spheres...

...and as erosion took place, over time the concretions were revealed.

This is the only place on Earth to see such a large number of the concretions together in one place.

$3 per adult and $.50 per child...

...goes to pay for maintaining the area...

They encourage guests to climb on the rocks...

...and to walk around and take it all in...

I don't think Mini #2 got much out of it...

...but Mini #1 loved it...

...and I loved all the photo ops...

At least we've got the pictures to remind Mini #2 that he really did go...

Even though he was definitely more interested in hanging with Dad...

Go. Climb. Experience. Definitely a place we'll go to again when the boys can climb by themselves.
