the (current) worst thing about living in Texas...
Published on 11.02.2010 in OFW
Running errands on Saturday, Engineering Man called to see if I could stop by the liquor store.
2 hours later after searching every strip mall and corner market, and dealing with crazy drivers, I finally found one on the other side of 35W.
And the reason...
Tarrant County is DRY!!!
That's right...I live in a dry county.
Ridiculous.

Thursday Things that break my heart...
Published on 10.28.2010 in Mini #1, OFW, Thursday Things
This was written a while back...sorry for the delay...but fitting for this week as we make our big move...
Mini #1 does not do well in new situations.
Mini #1 does not do well in new situations.
Not at all.
So, I've been trying to explain to him that we'll be moving to Texas. He's excited to go, even declaring, "MOMMY. We go NOW."
Unfortunately, I've been trying to also explain that we'll be living in a new house.
"No Mommy. We live in my house." (our current one)
"Well buddy. You see we can't live in our house. We can't move it to Texas."
"Yes we can."
"How?"
"We just have to PUSH it there."
(heart breaking as I say) "I don't think I'm strong enough to push it there buddy."
"Daddy will help us."
Oh hell. This isn't going to be good.

Before the moving guys came to the house I organized each room with a post it note.
Each color coincided with a room in our future house. For example, blue was Mini #1's future room. So boxes marked with "blue" will be placed in the new house in the "blue" room.
I did this to make it easier for the unloading of the giant truck that they packed to the roof.
Needless to say I had a whole bunch of different colors of post it notes, and well, didn't use all of them.
Engineering Man was helping me unpack this week and asked..."Got enough post its?"
He'll thank me when he realizes this was just one of 15 rooms and closets.
...and I can tell him where his socks are...

Engineering Man's been bitching about weed eating around the DIY patio I set up in the backyard.
So, Friday afternoon we ran to Home Depot to pick up some edgers.
$15 later, we were back home with a DIY project.
Engineering Man started by placing the edgers around the area to get an idea of where he wanted each of them placed.
Then, using a shovel, he cut into the sod on the outside of the edger to get his edge.
Finally, he cut out the sod around the edge of the wood chips...
He made the cut out about the size of the stone edgers...
He then tamped down each of the edgers into the cut out area around the chips...
Finally, he used the sod he had cut out to make the edgers look like they'd been there for more than 5 minutes.
Unfortunately, I didn't take an after picture...
But trust me. It looks awesome.
