I'm working on my bucket list...you know, the 100 things you want to do before you die.
Reflecting on what I want to do has made me realize what I've already done.
So, without further ado...35 things I've already done.
1. Got my degree.
2. Got married.
3. Am a mother.
4. Own a home.
5. Live outside of my home state of Kansas.
6. Have a passport.
7. Worked in the real world.
8. Worked at home.
9. Studied the Bible more.
10. Went to a Kansas Sweet Sixteen game.
11. Was in Cowboys Stadium.
12. Know the difference between crops.
13. Use a corn crib roof as a slide.
14. Be an aunt.
15. Live with my parents as an adult.
16. Live in Texas.
17. Own three houses before 30.
18. Have a miscarriage.
19. Sew curtains for our living room.
20. Figure out my design aesthetic...eclectic...if you were wondering.

25. Do ministry "officially" for my church.
26. Go to Costa Rica.

30. Have a new favorite store...IKEA!

I thought that this one...
...would be one of the easier ones to accomplish. Unfortunately it hasn't been.
BUT... I got close last week, so I'm calling it!
Mini #2 had horrid allergies and a nasty virus that gave him an awesome virus for a few days.
So, when we got back from vacation, he stayed home from school. And that meant I got to stay home for work as well. I woke up at 7 and got Mini #1 out the door. And promptly went back to bed with Mini #2.
We crashed until 10:45 am. :)

Engineering Man and my's recent trip to Costa Rica made my 30 Before 30 list shrink considerably.
So, without further ado...what I did do... :)
OK, so technically I'm not certified. But, my main goal in getting certified was so that I could go again. And...that we did do!!
And of course, while we were scuba diving around Monkey Head Island...
Check!
And finally,
Never in my wildest dreams did I believe that Costa Rica would be that country, but God works in amazing ways!!
On to the next item on my list!!!

I didn't think there was any way I'd get this crossed off...
And yet, our church helped me do just that...
Our church has an annual Instant Family Christmas Pageant.
Engineering Man and I did it this past weekend; it included multiple singing numbers, and of course, glitter crowns. :)
I'll have a video before Christmas and will update the post then...

30 Before 30... #8

This past weekend, six of our friends and my sister came into town to help me out with number...
on my 30 Before 30 list...
Last fall, my sister called and talked me into signing up for the Warrior Dash. Since it was only 15 minutes from the house, I thought it was a great opportunity to get my friends all down to hang out together.
I can't say I loved every minute of it, but I did enjoy the fact that I actually ran (yes, I RAN the entire time) 3.25 miles and finished 13 obstacles in just a little over 41 minutes. (41.04 to be exact).
I finished 141st in my age group and 1,041 overall (out of over 6,500).
Thanks to all my friends that helped make it possible to enjoy a weekend when I beat my body to crap, and for getting me excited to work out again!

#4. Learn more about my digital SLR and get good at taking pictures
...off my 30 Before 30 list. I didn't feel comfortable doing that until this past week.
Last Wednesday I used a Groupon and attended the McKay Photography Academy.
The major objective of the night...get off "Auto" mode or "Running man"...crap...
A little background...since I've had my camera, I've been watching videos on Youtube trying to figure out the "Manual" mode on my camera. Stupid videos didn't help. I was completely lost and that darn "M" kept eluding me.
BUT...the McKay's were awesome and put it all into very simple and easy to follow terms. I'll try to pass along the details...at least, how I understood them.
The McKay's explained that three elements, the ISO (image noise), aperture (depth of field or blurriness behind focus) and shutter speed (motion blur), all work together to create correct exposure.
It's all about the light.
Here's the easy to use steps:
1. Pick your ISO...start as low as possible (100) and go up as more light is needed. But, start low and go back if you need more light with the other triangular elements. Why? Because the higher the ISO the more "noise" will be in the picture.
2. Then, choose what you want and start with that as the second element.
2a. Pick shutter speed if you want to stop action...For example: kids in a pool.
2b. Pick aperture if you want the focus highlighted more...For example: flags at a memorial.
3. Then, using your light meter, move the other element you didn't choose for #2 until everything lines up at "O" on your light meter...thus getting correct exposure.
Brilliant! Right? And super simple...sort of.
It's still taken some getting used to, and Auto is still easy when I'm trying to catch a "moment" with the kids. Especially when it's something fun and a giggle, and my camera isn't set for the environment I'm in.

Engineering Man gave me an ultimatum the other day...
"Pick one thing on your 30 before 30 and do it before the end of next month."
My first thought..."Crap."
I'm not one of those people that procrastinate...somehow it's ingrained in me to get things done on time, or even early so I can have some "me" time before the next thing that comes up.
I know...that Type A personality thing gets me every time.
Anyway...I picked on of the easy ones...#12: Crochet a hat.
It was even easier than I thought!
After some great advice from one of you...my super awesome blog readers...I hit the Internets for some youtube action. And guess what I found?? Crochet Geek! I'm in love. Her stuff is awesome and she is a great teacher. The hat? Took me about 6 hours; start to finish. The next will probably take closer to 4, just because there was a trial and error period for me.
Alright people...what do you think? Something I should keep for myself or regift?

Two things on my 30 before 30 list that I've wanted to do for a long time are numbers...
18. Plant a garden.
19. Grow my own herbs.

...and there are two reasons I haven't done so.
1) I've never really had the space to do so...
2) My "green" thumb is black.
Literally, I kill everything.
All of the above problems have been solved at my mom's. Her thumb is green.
So this weekend I tilled mom's garden, and then the two of us planted potatoes...
...asparagus...
...onions...
...and herbs...
...in somewhat straight lines...
...I'll keep you posted on progress...

Before I left Mr. & Mrs. K's house, Mrs. K let me delve into her lipstick drawer to try out a few possibilities for crossing of the following on my 30 before 30...
I've never been very big into lipstick.
I've owned maybe two in my entire adult life.
So, when picking my perfect shade, I had NO idea where to start.
Mrs. K tossed her stash in front of me, and I went to work.
I judged them on the look on me, how well it would stand up to all seasons, how long it would last, cost and how it felt on my lips.
I started with Mary Kay's Amber Suede...
(...ooo too dark, and expensive...)
...and Apricot Glaze.
(...not bad...but the cost gets me, and wasn't too sure about the feel...)
Then moved to Loreal's Infalliable Barely Nude...
(...and the point of wearing bascially nothing???...)
...and Bloom.
(...not bad...didn't like the color for night though, and it seemed to be sticky...)
Then moved to Maybelline's Totally Toffee...
(...too brown...)
...Cover Girl's Lipstain...
(...too orange...)
...Clinique's Sweet Honey..
(...do I even want to know how much this costs???...)
...and finally Revlon's ColorStay Sheer Rosette...
(...felt good...color is good for day and night...cost effective...feels great on the lips and has a gloss for when it feels dry...)
...and Always Sienna.
(...again, very cost effective, gloss for "dry" times, but the color seemed a little dark for daytime...)
After reviewing my choices, Revlon's Color Stay definitely won hands down. The Sheer Rosette Color looked great, and will now join the foundation, bronzer, and mascara that are in my makeup case.
Yes, you heard me right...I have three things in my makeup case, with a couple eye shadows for the special occassions.
